    National Citizen Service

    Joe from The Challenge came into school on the 23rd February to speak to our Year 11 students about the opportunity to take part in National Citizen Service (NCS). NCS is a nationwide, government-funded summer programme for 15-17 year olds. It focuses on the transition to adulthood - meeting new people, getting involved in the local area, and developing new skills.     Half Term Activities

    14th February 2016

    It may be half term here at TEA but that does not stop us providing activities and creating memories for our students. On Monday 15th February and Tuesday 16th February PC Hides and students will be horse riding and having a day out at the stables. On behalf of everyone at TEA, have a lovely break and see you on Monday 22nd February 2016 for the start of an exciting new term!

    9A Enterprise

    8th February 2016

    Year 9 have been learning about the process of making and selling a product. Students have researched the valentines card market, worked as part of a production team, created a selection of valentines cards for sale and are selling them to academy staff and students this week. The students have shown some excellent enterprise skills and we are sure Lewis has a future in project management! Well done Year 9.

    Friday 12th February

    Parents and carers are invited to attend a session to meet and discuss the progress of their child on Friday 12th February. Transport pick up points have been arranged and further information can be found in the letter that has been sent. This is an excellent opportunity to view the academy and to meet the teachers that teach your son/daughter. We look forward to welcoming you to The Elland between 11am and 1pm.

    Representatives of The Elland Academy were pleased to attend the presentation evening on Friday 15th January at Hunslet Boys and Girls Club. The evening was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our learners who accessed courses at HBGC. Our staff were able to share the success of Fiona who is now studying Hair and Beauty, Courtney who is studying Uniformed Services and Jordan who is studying construction.     Thursday 17th December our students are taking part in training on drugs, alcohol and tobacco. We aim to support our young people in making choices that are healthy and to make sure they understand the dangers associated with drugs, alcohol and tobacco.

    Extended Learning Project - ICT

    The Elland Academy recently launched a series of extended learning projects. Students have been working hard over the past few weeks on a ICT project where students have had to come up with their own app ideas. Their efforts came to an end and were celebrated on the 10th December during a celebration breakfast. Students tucked into bacon sandwiches while looking at and discussing the work completed.     The Academy will be having a training day on Friday 13th November 2015.  The Academy is therefore closed for all pupils on this day.

    Animation Trip - National Media Museum 2015

    Following on from the successful trip last year with our current year 11 students a selection of year 8,9 and 10 students were invited along to Bradford Media Museum to explore the world of animation. Another fantastic day  was had at The National Media Museum. The students took part in an animation workshop and created their own short stop frame animations.     The Elland Academy visits Media City.

    On 6th October, some of our students visited BBC centre in Manchester, this was a fantastic opportunity for them to develop their knowledge of the careers in news and television. All the students had a great day and were fascinated with how the news is developed. They are looking forward to applying this in their I-media and ICT lessons.

    The Elland Academy hosted the launch event of the partnership between the School Partnership Trust and The Northern School of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Clinical Services (NSCAP). The partnership is an exciting opportunity for students at The Elland Academy to be supported by specialist NHS staff who are able to support students with mental health and emotional issues.

    On Friday 10th July 2015 students and staff at The Elland Academy participated in their first Sports Day. The weather was wonderful at Middleton Sports Centre and staff and students participated in a variety of activities such as cricket, relay races, 3 legged races and even a welly toss!

    Leading The Elland Academy to success

    A headteacher’s success at a new alternative provision free school in Leeds has received national recognition. The Elland Academy was established a year ago to re-engage challenging and vulnerable students in the city and surrounding area.     Farewell to our first ever Year 11 cohort!

    Staff at the Elland academy treated their students to an evening to remember. They students were given the opportunity to celebrate their end of KS4 with their peers to mark the end of their post 16 education.

    We blasted the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge!

    Staff at TEA have completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge! A massive thank you goes out to everyone who was involved both during and on the run up to this challenge! The weather was on our side and staff members really motivated each other to complete the 28 mile adventure! We may all be suffering with blisters and sore muscles but to date we have raised over £700 for charity! A massive well done and a massive thank you!
