Welcome to Child Development
Would you like to have an exciting job working with children?
A career in childcare can be greatly rewarding and challenging, so the right qualifications and skills are essential if you're going to get the most out of the children you are responsible for.
You will work towards individual units which include:
- Sharing learning experiences with children
- Children’s play and learning activities
- Supporting babies to play
You will learn within a practical nursery environment which also often gives you hands on work experience opportunities and you will receive excellent provision whilst learning with us - we are here to help and support you every step of the way.
We are a Cache Centre, the specialist awarding body for people working in childcare and have a specialist department working in the early year’s industry.
The Elland Academy provides child development courses for beginners through to more advanced levels so don't worry; there will be a course to suit your experience and skill level.
Child Development gives an opportunity for students to look at Child Development in a practical way. Students can work towards achieving:
- CACHE Level 1 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Caring for Children
- CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Caring for Children
- CACHE Level 2 Award Child Development & Care
The course will also give students the chance to take part in work experience.
As a department we want to develop and build relationships. We are looking to work with local provisions, training providers, colleges, Coburn John Charles, Wales High School and The Grove, Harrogate. Working with others we are looking to offer further qualification opportunities. Building relationships with parents and carers is also important to us and we look to offer in the near future: Stay & Play sessions, Story time sessions, Young Parents Group and to develop placement opportunities for the Elland students.
