The Pupil Premium was introduced by the Coalition Government in April 2011. This additional funding is paid to schools in respect of their disadvantaged pupils:
Pupils who have been registered for free schools meals (FSM) at any point in the last six yearsPupils looked after continuously by the local authority for more than six months.
FSM is the only pupil level measure of deprivation available to schools and the link between FSM eligibility and school underachievement is very strong. Schools receive Pupil Premium funding to support their eligible pupils and narrow the attainment gap between them and their peers.

The Elland Academy
The Elland Academy receives a proportion of the referring academies Pupil Premium funding based on the hours that a pupil spends learning with us.
The Academy uses the funding in the following ways:
- Maths and English intervention
- Literacy and Numeracy support
- 1 to 1 mentoring/learning
- Pastoral support and intervention
- Learning support
- Provision of equipment and resources
- Off-site provision
- Counselling support
- Self-esteem groups
- Community visits
- Transport and attendance support
The academy is committed to developing this programme and continues to explore new and innovative ways of improving life chances for all students.
