SMSC is an abbreviation of Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural, whilst this may seem to be quite a new subject area it has been taught in schools for many years under many different names. We have taken the approach that SMSC Is essential in developing the skills our learners need to be successful and we match the curriculum to ensure our learners are able to be work ready and life ready.
We approach topics with care and sensitivity as we know a lot of issues may have affected the young people we support. We ensure that any support is put into place that may be needed for our learners.
We cover the following areas through whole school drop down events and lesson topic teaching:
- Healthy relationships
- Emotional Wellbeing
- Personal Finance
- Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco
- Sex Education
- What it means to be British
- Personal Action Planning
- Being ready for the world of work
This list evolves as we respond to the needs of our learners.
We look to engage with outside agencies when it enriches the learning of our students, we welcome offers of potential projects that would support our learners in developing their skills/knowledge/understanding of any topic that falls under the SMSC umbrella.
